Published Oct 26, 2018Lil Boat is back, unfortunately, with a new album. Clocking in at 15 songs, Nuthin' 2 Prove shows off the capabilities of a litany of successful featured performers, and an artist who has made two or three good songs and one good mixtape in his career.
Yachty is young, sure, and so still finding himself as an artist — which is fine, but it doesn't make these times worth any listeners' while. "Yacht Club," "Who Want the Smoke?" and "Forever World" are listenable, fun songs — the only ones really, the kind we expect from the man who blessed the world with "Broccoli" and "Minnesota." Each of these songs features someone who brings more to the track than the supposedly main artist — Juice WRLD, Cardi B and Offset, and Trippie Redd respectively.
The album's only memorable line comes from "Yacht Club." In a neat, call-back style flow, with Yachty rapping the first and third lines, they drop the gem, "I'm a young king, I might fuck Alexis Texas / But I ain't on no Drake shit, I won't get her pregnant / Damn, young Juice WRLD, boy, you reckless." This is hilarious, creative and seen nowhere else on the album.
Lil Yachty's Nuthin' 2 Prove serves more to show off the talents of the featured artists than anything else. None of the Atlanta artist we know and used to love is present on this joint. (Quality Control/Capitol/Motown/Epic)
