'Beethoven' and 'Heartbreak Kid' Star Charles Grodin Dead at 86
Published May 18, 2021Veteran scene-stealing actor Charles Grodin, whose career included The Heartbreak Kid, Midnight Run and the Beethoven franchise, has died. He was 86 years old and died Tuesday of bone marrow cancer.
News of Grodin's death was confirmed to the New York Times by Grodin's son Nicholas.
The actor's long, storied career started with some television appearances in the 1960s. He also had a small part in Rosemary's Baby in 1968.
Still, his many highlights included The Heartbreak Kid (1972), Real Life (1979), Midnight Run (1988) and Beethoven (1992). He also managed to steal Miss Piggy's heart in The Great Muppet Caper (1981).
Grodin's final role was 2017's The Private Life of a Modern Woman, where he starred alongside Sienna Miller and Alex Baldwin.
