Published Jan 13, 2021While the details surrounding Tommy "Tiny" Lister's cause of death remain unclear, new information about the former pro-wrestler-turned-actor's life has surfaced, including the fact that he legally changed his middle name to "Debo" about six months ago.
His manager Cindy Cowan confirmed with TMZ earlier today that Lister — born Thomas Duane Lister Jr. — wanted to honour his hugely memorable Friday character Deebo with the name change because he thought that's how his fans would remember him. The change has been reflected on his death certificate as well.
Lister's passing is suspected to be COVID related, though doctors have yet to confirm anything official. "Debo" was found dead in his Marina Del Rey apartment on December 10. He was 62 years old.
As an actor, Lister will forever be remembered for his role in the Friday films, as well as President Lindberg in The Fifth Element. More recently, Lister also was in The Dark Knight. In 1989, he starred opposite Hulk Hogan in the classic wrestling flick No Holds Barred, as well as in other '80s films.
