Dead Obies Scène Paramount, Rouyn-Noranda QC, September 2
Published Sep 03, 2016There are few bands that bridge the French/English gap in as fun a way as Dead Obies. The outsider hip-hop group lay ruin to the entire venue at Scène Paramount on FME's Friday night (September 2), blasting through more than an hour of dark and twisty bilingual hybrid rap that had the whole building — packed to an almost suffocating degree — pogo-ing up and down with their hands in the air.
With an injured leg, Snail Kid was relegated mostly to a wheelchair, but the few moments he stood up were greeted with major applause, and rightly so, because the dude, along with his inexhaustible partners in crime, are more or less unstoppable.
An encore was inevitable and raised the already high bar to even loftier heights, as Dead Obies slammed through "Montreal $ud," "What It Is," and finally, "Tony Hawk," where they eventually broke down and just chanted "TAYLOR SWIFT!" and "RYAN GOSLING!" ad nauseum. The twisted hip-hop group, at that point, sounded almost like a bizarre hardcore punk band. They're not a band to be missed.
